Browse the guide or search by tapping in full or partial keywords—the application will automatically scroll to the relevant entries. Choose seafood marked "Best Choices" whenever possible as these are abundant, well managed and fished or farmed in environmentally friendly ways. Select items marked "Good Alternative" less often as there are concerns about those fisheries and fish farms. Lastly, steer clear of seafood marked "Avoid" as these are over-fished or fished or farmed in ways that harm other marine life or the environment.
Seafood Watch creates recommendations for seafood items based on market information collected from retailers and restaurants in the U.S. about the items they sell. The Seafood Watch research team gathers information about the most popular seafood items, imported and domestic, and evaluates it using our sustainability criteria. For each item, a report is completed and circulated to outside experts who review and critique our findings. At the conclusion of this process, a final seafood report and recommendation are completed and posted on our website,
www.seafoodwatch.org.
